  15. notorious Night Stalker; of 13 counts of murder and 30 felony
  16. charges, including rape, sodomy and burglary; in Los Angeles.
  17. In 1984 and 1985 Ramirez went on a 14-month rampage, terrifying
  18. Angelenos by leaving satanic symbols at murder sites and forcing
  19. victims to swear allegiance to the devil. The jury returned its
  20. verdict after 22 days of deliberation. Ramirez, captured four
  21. years ago by an angry mob that recognized him from police
  22. sketches, muttered a single word as he was led from the
  23. courthouse: "Evil."
